Women's Program

Providing essential resources including basic literacy and ESL classes, community, and conversation practice

Community

We build relationships with the women in our program, offering support as they navigate life within the USA. Our dedicated staff and volunteers make home visits and help families make connections with community resources. From providing encouragement, celebrating the birth of a child, and mourning with those experiencing tragedy, we walk beside clients in all of life’s circumstances.

I am very shy, when I come to PLI, I feel more confident. Ms. Angela has me discuss topics. I am not shy anymore. I can speak more relaxed now, thanks to my teacher.

PLI is a wonderful place. It has helped a lot of people. The people at PLI are nice. I learned at PLI that people help people. They don’t have discrimination between Muslim and people. In my country or here, I have never seen a place like PLI.

We had a PLI Essay contest. My main goal was to participate, not to win a prize. I studied budgeting, a topic I had never read before. It was the first time I had typed an essay on a computer. We spent 3 days to do that and my teacher was very helpful. Mrs. Danielle called and said I got 1st position. I can’t explain how I felt. I had water in my eyes. My whole family couldn't believe it.

I really like PLI. I started citizen classes at PLI. My sister became a citizen. I passed the test. Mrs. Kelly is a very good teacher. I mostly recommend other people to attend Kelly’s classes.

I want to continue in my field, but language is my problem. I haven’t felt comfortable until now. PLI staff is very friendly and are close to their students. They are good teachers. They don’t teach everything too fast. Another issue I have is that I have a little one, and PLI has a nursery. I was comfortable to be in class.

PLI has helped my children. I bring my small daughter here with me. I take books from the library for my daughter. I think being at PLI has helped them. My youngest daughter wouldn't speak with others and was only with me. She would cry. Now she is good. She likes to play. She loves to come to PLI.
