ESL Coordinator
Carla heard about PLI and wanted to get involved, but her nursing schedule would not permit it. After taking a break from work in 2025 to care for her mother, Carla found her schedule more open. What began as volunteer work as an ESL instructor at PLI in the spring of 2026 has now transitioned into a full-time role at PLI. She is excited about working with and serving people from diverse cultural backgrounds, making a positive difference, and helping immigrants and refugees adjust to life in the U.S.
Previously, she lived in Central Asia for a total of nine years and has experience learning both written and unwritten languages. She has experience teaching ESL cross-culturally to both children and adults. She enjoys outdoor things like hiking, camping, and gardening, and some indoor things like cooking, reading, and a variety of needlework. She has a degree in Wildlife Science from Texas A&M and a degree in Nursing from the University of Houston Downtown.
