Sonia Kimmey

Sonia, originally from Mexico, immigrated to pursue a biomedical engineering degree at LeTourneau University in the USA. Upon graduation, she worked in medical device development for low-resource settings at Rice University. Throughout her life, she has enjoyed connecting with people from different countries and languages, leading her to travel to several countries in Africa and Europe. During her time in Houston, she has embraced the multiculturality of the city and has volunteered in several organizations.

Sonia started at PLI as an after-school volunteer in spring of 2025 and is now excited to join the PLI team. Her dream is to be able to greet people in their heart language. During her free time, she enjoys sports, discovering new restaurants, and finding new hobbies she will probably keep for two weeks
